Legal Advocates for Abused Women (LAAW), now a program of the Crime Victim Advocacy Center, is dedicated to helping victims of abuse in times of crisis, working within the legal system, law enforcement and criminal & civil court systems to break the cycle of violence at the earliest possible stage. LAAW is a local domestic violence program in the greater St. Louis area that provides crisis intervention & support, legal information & advocacy, safety planning, and legal & social service referrals for victims of abuse.
What Saint Louis is Saying About LAAW
– Aimee Nassif, LAAW Board President,
I am proud to be a part of the LAAW organization, where the dedication and persistence of the staff, board members and volunteers is extraordinary as they provide vital services that are unduplicated in the St. Louis area to victims of domestic violence and their children.
“I now have pride in knowing that I took a stand for myself, my children and women everywhere…but I am not the hero. The heroes are the advocates who watch over women like me. LAAW has helped every step of the way. So to abused women everywhere…take the first step and LAAW will make sure you never walk alone!”
– Lieutenant John Harper, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department
Victims of domestic violence crimes and members of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) have greatly benefited for many years by having an effective collaboration with advocates and staff comprising the Domestic Violence Intervention Partnership (DVIP). The advocacy services provided by these professionals from Legal Advocates for Abused Women help ensure that victims are receiving the highest level of support, information, safety planning, and compassion during a time when they are needed most.
